Think about what you have read and answer the following questions.

• Make a list of all the main characters in the chapters who have read for this week.
• Select a main character from the list you created. Go back into the novel and find the important things your character says and does. Use sticky notes or a highlighter to mark these places. Next, write the answers to the questions below.
• Character’s Name
• Important things the character says/does (include page number)
• Why it is important?
• As we meet people, we realize that there are things about them that can be clear to see or understand. What is above the surface are things like race, height, hair color, etc. What are all of the things you know about the character that are above the surface? Then there are things that you can only learn by getting to know the person like what music they like, what scares them or what dreams they have. These are things below the surface. What do you know about the character that is below the surface?
